GlobalP3HS – Call 1

Early-Stage Researcher (PhD) in Public Health Sciences

The SSPH+ Global PhD Program in Public Health Sciences (GlobalP3HS) is an innovative Swiss doctoral program, designed to recruit exceptionally talented students from all over the world. Co-funded by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (Horizon 2020 - COFUND), GlobalP3HS offers 50 doctoral fellowships (of up to 42 months) at one of the eight Swiss founding universities of the Foundation Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+). Young scientists inter-ested in performing cutting-edge research in public health sciences and keen to become the next generation of public health leaders in both the academic and non-academic sector, are invited to apply.

About SSPH+

The Foundation Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) assembles the inter-university faculty of public health sciences across the eight Swiss universities (Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Svizzera italiana and Zurich). SSPH+ is based on the vision that, in a small country like Switzerland, public health sciences thrive through academic collaborations that cross the boundaries of disciplines, faculties, institutes, and universities.

Your profile

We are looking for promising talents coming to Switzerland from abroad that are able to push the boundaries of frontier research in public health sciences. Citizens of any nationality may apply. Candidates must have a very good command of English (written and reading) as this will be the language of all GlobalP3HS PhD studies. Particularly welcomed and encouraged are proposals from women and applications made under the ‘sandwich model’ - a successful model to build sustainable research collaborations with low and middle income countries (LMICs) and to foster mutual learning for change.

To apply to GlobalP3HS, a candidate must fulfill the following three formal eligibility criteria defined by Swiss universities in accordance with the EU Horizon 2020 framework:

  • hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent);
  • be an Early-Stage Researcher (ESR), i.e. without a PhD at the date of GlobalP3HS recruitment, while being in the first four years since the Master’s degree that qualifies a candidate for a PhD;
  • comply with the mobility rule of the EU Horizon 2020 framework, i.e. must not have resided or carried out the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in total during the three years prior to the deadline for the submission of proposals (exception: refugee status).
